BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge

Explain how and why producers of radio programmes target different audiences. refer to the Radio 1 Live lounge to support your answer.

Radio producers need to target numerous audiences to bring in masses of listeners and gain more views for the performers as well as the radio station, new listeners might have there eye caught from a well known artist or a well known song, such as....

Harry Styles (Well known artist know was on britans most view show X factor)
Performing The chain by fleetwook Mac.
(which is one the most known rock songs from a very popular british/american band)
From this this is going to bring in a huge mass of crowd from several different audiences from people who follow

  • Harry styles
  • Rock music
  • Fleetwood
  • American audiences
  • X Factor audiences
  • Existing Radio 1 Live lounge listeners
Once this video/ radio stream most of those target audiences would see the video or tune in to the live lounge once listened there would be more demand for types of live lounges from all different artists singing old or new songs but with a live cover which BBC Radio one gains more followers for the quality of music there producing from live lounges, in most cases the listeners would spread around the song on social media or just in person which makes most music spread like a wildfire depending on how good the mashup of artist and song choice is such as Harry styles live lounge as this creates a massive audience from other genres and styles of music as this is something new and the mix from a old song preformed by a new artist live is a massive clickbait for listeners on the radio as well as the viewers online on youtube and other streaming websites.

exam practice

Why was the pre-watershed scheduling of 8pm significant in terms of the representations they could offer?      ( marks 3 )

The reason why most/some shows are aired after 5-7pm is what the movie or show has in its contents such as
-Drugs
-Violence
-Over 16 recommended viewers
-Gore and blood
-violent language

shows are aired after 5pm to protect children from seeing bad images on TV and so they wont take in what is shown on TV and think this is okay.
Some shows that are aired after 5pm are supposed to be unsuitable for most audience

How were the following areas represented in the episode:    (10 marks)
Ethnicity
Gender
Sexuality

Cuffs was aired around 8pm on BBC but at the time cuffs was released (2015) most of the topics that are shown in episode 1 season 1 of the program is presented in Brighton which is presented as the gay capital of britan, however Homosexuality was a subject that wasn't approved as much as it is the present day now as most people where against the subject (homosexuality). One of the main characters in cuffs is gay which isn't the biggest change to TV but is encouraging the trend that was ahead of its time.
